Why a Christian Therapist for Your Child

A skilled child therapist doesn't need to share your faith to help your child. But when a six-year-old says they're scared God isn't listening, or an eight-year-old asks why their grandpa "went to be with Jesus" and still doesn't come back, a Christian therapist doesn't have to translate.

For Christian parents, having a therapist inside that framework matters. You don't have to worry about values being quietly contradicted in session, or about your child picking up language that clashes with what they hear on Sundays.

That's what our team offers. We are registered psychotherapists in Ontario, and we also walk with Christ. Prayer is welcomed when your child wants it. Scripture shows up at an age they can hold. The clinical work we do for anxiety, grief, behavioural concerns, and family changes runs alongside your faith, not against it.

Ages We Work With

We work with children and teens ages 6 to 17. Our approach shifts with each developmental stage so it meets your child where they actually are.

Ages 6 to 9

Play-based and creative sessions. We draw, tell stories, and talk in small pieces, helping younger children name feelings they don't have full words for yet.

Ages 10 to 13

A mix of conversation and activity. Kids this age often open up while doing something with their hands. The room is ready for the hard questions that come with growing up.

Ages 14 to 17

Mostly conversation. Teens need a therapist who takes them seriously, gives them real privacy, and doesn't treat faith questions as a threat to belief.

A note on younger ages. For children under 6, we'd direct you to a clinic that specializes in very early childhood development, as that age sits outside our scope of practice as psychotherapists.

What a Session Looks Like

Parents often ask this, and it's a good question. Therapy with a child is not a lecture, and it's not an interrogation.

A session is 50 minutes. The first visit is usually mostly with the parents, so we can hear the story from your side. Then we meet the child at their pace. For younger kids that might mean sitting on the floor together, playing with figures, or drawing. For a teen it often looks like two people talking, with as much silence as they need.

Your child isn't put on the spot. Nothing to perform, nothing to prove. The work is slow and relational, because trust has to come first before anything real shifts.

Parents Stay Involved

You are the most important adult in your child's life. We don't work around you, we work with you.

Legal Guardian Consent

A legal guardian has to sign the consent form before any session begins. We walk through it with you and answer every question before the first appointment.

Parent Check-ins

Short parent meetings keep you in the loop on themes, at-home strategies, and progress. What your child shares in confidence stays in confidence, except where safety is at stake.

Safety Always Shared

If there's any risk to your child's safety, you'll be told. Confidentiality protects the therapy relationship. It doesn't protect secrecy about harm.

Mandatory Reporting

Under Ontario's Child, Youth and Family Services Act, registered psychotherapists must report suspected child abuse or neglect. We'll explain this plainly at the start, so you know exactly what it means.

How Faith Shows Up, Gently

Faith shows up only when your child and family invite it. Nothing is pushed, and nothing replaces the work of therapy itself.

Prayer, If They Want It

A child who wants to pray at the start or end of a session is welcome to. A child who doesn't is equally welcome. Their call, not ours.

Age-Appropriate Scripture

When it's helpful, we'll reference a simple biblical truth about God's care. Never preachy. The kind of quiet reminder that settles a kid down.

Biblical Stories of Kids

Young David. Young Samuel. Young Esther. Children trusted by God with real things. These stories can help a child see themselves as seen, known, and brave enough for what's in front of them.

What We Are, and What We Aren't

Our team is made up of registered psychotherapists in Ontario. We offer psychotherapy. We don't diagnose, we don't prescribe, and we don't do formal psycho-educational or ADHD testing.

If your child needs a diagnosis, an ADHD assessment, or a medication conversation, that's work for a paediatrician, a child and adolescent psychiatrist, or a registered psychologist. We'll tell you that honestly, help you sort out the difference, and refer to colleagues we trust.

What we do well is walk alongside your child through the emotional, relational, and spiritual layers of what they're carrying, in a way that supports any other care they may need.
